Common Sense Media has one of the best free curriculum for digital citizenship. I have used these lesson plans in my classroom and so has Mrs. Quick our computer lab teacher. Click here to see what it looks like.
Reviews and Graphite
Common Sense Media has a large collection of reviews by their editors. Parents and kids can also add in their input. They review apps, games, websites, TV shows, movies and books.
According to their website, “Graphite™ is a free service from nonprofit Common Sense Media designed to help preK-12 educators discover, use, and share the best apps, games, websites, and digital curricula for their students by providing unbiased, rigorous ratings and practical insights from our active community of teachers.” While targeted at teachers it can also be helpful for parents who want to use technology in an educational way at home.
Common Sense Media has a great Blog where parents and educators post about current issues and reviews. Some recent blog posts have been titled, “Study: Kids Go Digital, But TV Still Reigns, How do I pick scary Halloween movies that won’t upset my kids? and New Kids’ Books Just in Time for Thanksgiving Break
